I am no social activist: Aamir
His film mays touch upon some of the burning issues of the contemporary India but Aamir Khan says he is merely an entrainer.
“I don’t see myself as a politician or a social activist. If a person buys a ticket for my movie he is coming for entertainment and not for social education. For that he can go t
o college. But if a movie can send a strong message it is all the more better,” Khan said answering queries on whether he was using his films as a medium to send strong messages of social relevance. The 45-year-old, who was here to promote his film Peepli Live at Melbourne International Film Festival, said he preferred to be known as an entertainer.
“I see myself as a creative person, an individual and as a responsible citizen who is contributing to society in my own way. You don’t have to go into politics for that or be a policy maker for that. That’s what I am doing as a citizen and as a creative person,” the actor said.
Films like Taare Zameen Par and 3 Idiots took pot shots at the education system and his latest film, directed by debutant Anusha Rizwi, is a tongue-in-cheek satire at the growing urban and rural divide in the country and the role of media and politics in it.
