Fighter pilots’ brain smarter, finds study
Fighter pilots’ brains are smarter and more capable than those with no piloting experience, says a new research based on cognitive tests and scans.
The study, conducted by the University College London, compares the cognitive performance of a group of front-line Royal Air Force Tornado fighter pilots to a control group with a similar IQ but with no similar experience of flying aircraft. Researchers found that fighter pilots have superior cognitive control, showing significantly greater accuracy on one of the cognitive tasks, despite being more sensitive to irrelevant, distracting information.
Senior study author Masud Husain of the college, said: “We were interested in the pilots because they’re often operating at the limits of human cognitive capability — they are an expert group making precision choices at high speed.” Cognition refers to mental processes that involve thinking, knowing, remembering, judging and problem-solving, which encompass language, imagination, perception and planning.

Hathaway to bare all onscreen
London: Hollywood beauty Anne Hathaway accepts the fact that she has to get naked as an actress and believes every actor should be prepared to strip if the role requires nudity.
The Princess Diaries star, who recently posed nude for a number of scenes in her film Love & Other Drugs alongside actor Jake Gyllenhaal has no qualms to strip in front of the cameras and completely relies on her co-stars to help her overcome any pre-scene nerves, Bang Showbiz reported. “Doing nudity is really a part of being an actor and you know at some point it might happen. But everyone wants to be respectful of each other and everyone wants each other to feel as comfortable as possible so I think those days have a focus,” said Hathaway.
“In this film (Love & Other Drugs) we really approached it from a very prepared place. We discussed what we wanted to do beforehand and what we were comfortable with, we traded references from other films to establish an index of communicational references that we share. So by the time we came to do the scenes we were very well prepared,” she said.
