Fantastic Four: One will die
The Fantastic Four, the fictional comic superheros created about 50-years-ago, are set to become three, with one character to be killed in the January edition.
Publisher Marvel Comics has said that a member of the group, which comprise Mr Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and the Thing, will die in issue No. 587 next month. All were left in life-threatening situations in the latest issue.
Tom Brevoort, the executive editor who oversees the comic book, said there had been plenty of clues as to who will die during the current storyline. “I think we’ve given plenty of hints as to who may die — perhaps too many, in that every one of our lead characters is left in a dire, life-threatening situation the month before,” the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying. Issue No. 587 is released in January and will be wrapped in a black bag designed to keep snoops from finding out, without buying the comic. It won’t appear on news-stands, either, the Marvel Comics said. “The surprises in this issues — and what comes next 1 constitute one of the biggest events in Marvel’s history,” David Gabriel, senior vice-president for sales and circulation at Marvel, said.
But is death really the end and, more so, will it be permanent? After all, death has visited the Fantastic Four, which was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appeared in 1961, before.
Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman, supposedly died, but that was just a ruse. Similarly, her husband, Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr Fantastic, was thought dead after being caught in a blast with his arch-enemy Dr Doom.
