Boyle film to close London Film Fest
British director Danny Boyle’s latest film 127 Hours has been chosen as the closing night film for the London Film Festival in October this year.
Boyle, who will direct the London Olympics opening ceremony in 2012, led his last film Slumdog Millionaire to sweep Oscar, Golden Globe and Bafta awards.
The 54th BFI London Film Festival will start on October 13 by opening with premiere of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go, starring Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield.
Boyle is again teaming with screenwriter Simon Beaufoy and producer Christian Colson for 127 Hours, which is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston’s adventure to save himself after a falling boulder crashed on his arm and trapped him in an isolated canyon in Utah.
Coming just two years after his film Slumdog Millionaire was the closing film at the London Film Festival, this is a huge honour for the British director.
Expressing his delight at 127 Hours being chosen as the closing night film, Danny Boyle said, “I am honoured and delighted that 127 Hours has been selected to close the BFI London Film Festival. 127 Hours will be released in January 2011.
