Big B best actor, 3 Idiots popular film at National Awards

The eagerly anticipated 57th national awards were announced this evening in the capital. Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan won his fourth best actor award for his performance in Paa. He would be receiving the Rajat Kamal and `50,000 for his portrayal of Auro in Paa. Paa also bagged the best Hindi film award in addition to winning the prize for the best supporting actress that went to Arundhati Nag and best make-up that went to Christein Tinsley and Dominie Till.
Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots won the best popular film award. The film also secured the best lyrics award for Swanand Kirkire. But the real cynosure of all eyes was Kutty Srank —a Malayalam movie that garnered five awards for best feature film, cinematography, screenplay, costume, and a special jury recognition. The special jury recognition was shared by Kutty Srank with Hindi blockbuster Kaminey and Malayalam film Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja.
The Bengali film Abohoman won four awards for best actress that went to Ananya Chatterjee, best direction bagged by Rituparno Ghosh, best editing won by Arghyakamal Mitra in addition to have been judged the best Bengali movie.
A sweet rendering in the film Housefull fetched Nilanjan Sarkar the best female playback prize while Rupam Islam was adjudged the best male playback singer for his voice in Mahanagar.
Magadheera, a Telugu film, won the honours for special effects and choreography while famous music-director Ilayaraja was given the award for best background score for the film Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja. The honours for the best child actor award was shared by Jeeva and Anba Karaus. Putaani Party in Kannada and Keshu in Malayalam together grabbed the best children’s film award.
