A.R. Rahman will perform at Oscars

Composer A.R. Rahman, who has been second time lucky in getting two nominations at the Oscars, will be performing at the prestigious award ceremony in Los Angeles yet again. The 45-year-old, who has been nominated in two categories — original score and original song — for his work in Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours, will team up with British pop singer Florence Welch to perform If I Rise from the movie. The performance is being staged for the best song nominees, and other competitors will be performing too, reports contactmusic.com.
Rahman performed at the Oscars in 2009, when he was nominated for the same categories for Slumdog Millionaire. This year Mandy Moore and Gwyneth Paltrow will be performing as well. —IANS

Clooney bans Pitt, Jolie family from mansion
London: Hollywood star George Clooney has banned his friend Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s family from his house after their kids wreaked havoc on their last visit.
The actors have been best pals since they made Oceans 11 together 10 years ago, but now it looks like Clooney won’t be inviting Pitt, 47, to his house again because of his kids’ bad behaviour, the Daily Star reported. When the Brangelina family came to Clooney’s Italian mansion, his six children created chaos, according to sources. The actor was allegedly furious when the kids trashed the house, moved furniture and tampered with his clothes while their parents said nothing.
Although he is friends with Pitt, Clooney has always had a rocky relationship with Jolie, 35. “She has always considered George to be a hard-drinking, skirt-chasing bad influence on Brad,” said a friend. “She hates the whole ‘boy’s club’ mentality. When Brad was working on Ocean’s Thirteen in Las Vegas, she was afraid George would lead him astray.” —PTI

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
