All odds out: Bets begin on WillKat baby in ’12
Prince William is yet to wed his fiancée Kate Middleton, but Britons have started betting on the birth of their first child.
The bookies seem confident that William and Kate will confirm they are having their first child in 2012, the year of Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond jubilee and London Olympics. Kate will turn 30 that year.
Ladbrokes is offering 4/6 odds on 2012 announcement of the imminent birth of a baby, who will be third-in-line to the British throne and William Hill is offering 5/4 odds.
The bookies are also quoting odds of 33/1 that Kate will become pregnant on the honeymoon and 6/1 odds that she will have twins. “Punters are all in agreement that the announcement will come next year. Twins in 2013 would be an ideal result for us!” Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said.
The bizarre betting does not just confine itself to pregnancy and babies: William Hill is offering 8/1 odds that William and Kate will not be married on their 10th wedding anniversary. However, the romance of the royal wedding is still strong as the yes option is favourite at present with 1/20 odds.
The betting spread for the royal wedding, which will be held on April 29 at the Westminster Abbey, includes bizarre options like where William will kiss Kate during their appearance on the balcony of the Buckingham Palace after their wedding. The popular sentiment is lips (1/5 odds), but the other betting options are forehead (20/1), cheek (4/1), hand (16/1) and ear (33/1).
