Stay tuned to cosmic music

We make so much fuss about happiness and sorrow. People toil and strive all their lives with the hope of finding happiness and avoiding sorrow. But happiness is not a commodity to be found somewhere.

It is a harmonious attunement of one’s energies. We cannot be happy if we are disconnected with life around us. All the enlightened mystics say life is run by “The Law”. Lao Tzu calls the law Tao, Buddha calls it Dhamma and for Osho it is existence. Essentially, it is an intrinsic musical harmony between things and events. It is good to remind ourselves that human beings are also energetic events in life.
When one is in accord with the flow of life it can be felt as a humming in the cells, a soothing feeling which is perceived as happiness. And the moment we are out of tune with it, like a broken string of a violin, the discordance that emerges feels life sorrow. This law is so immense and an individual so tiny that one has to simply let go and flow with it, no one can fight with it. Going against the law leads to accidents of many kinds.
For instance, if you have a fracture, it could be because you might have gone against the law of gravitation. Deep inside you may be feeling self-destructive or depressed and you miss a step and had a fall. Had you followed the law of gravitation, you could have avoided the fracture.
Try to remember the moments of bliss and the moments of suffering in your life. Analyse them, and you will find that whenever you were happy and blissful it was because you were tuned in to the law, and whenever you were suffering it was because you moved against the law.
It will be interesting to observe how you sow the seeds of sorrow. For example, one of the most common desires people have is to aspire to be No. 1. If you want to be at the top by defeating others, you have already moved against the law. It is because the law is equal to everyone it doesn’t discriminate. Nurturing an unmusical desire of surpassing others is treading the path of sorrow. You are out of tune with the cosmic music. You may become successful but you will not be happy. The beauty of following the universal law is that your happiness grows in proportion to your flowering. And this won’t be against anyone’s growth.
You don’t need a guru or a guide to make yourself aware of this law. Just a little relaxed awareness, and a spark of intuitive intelligence is enough.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
