‘Music is my life’

Currently on the ‘Circle Tour’ –– that kicked off in February this year, Bon Jovi is eagerly awaiting the last leg of their live tour. However, the band won’t be making a stop in India, despite having missed the opportunity to perform at Live Earth India in 2008. “We would like to come to India and play,” Jon Bon Jovi promises.

After nearly two decades of keeping fans and music lovers entertained, he says, “Music is my life. Even if we called it a day, today I will have spent more time with this band than I did without them. So, no matter what happens, this was an intricate part of who and what I am.”
If the hit makers were to release an old track of theirs, Jon believes it would be the single Bounce. “I love Bounce the album very much. Unfortunately there is only so much disk space and so some things had to suffer for it,” laughs Jon.
While Jon admits that the thought of performing live with any other musician hasn’t crossed his mind, on collaborations with Indian artistes, Jon says, “Unfortunately, I haven’t any connections to the Indian music scene. I’d be open to hearing it, but I haven’t had the opportunity. As far as collaborating with an Indian artist goes, I wouldn’t mind giving it a thought. I’m always excited about the prospect of collaborative efforts because music is a universal language, it doesn’t have to do anything with borders or even language barriers.”
Naturally, after nearly a year of performing in continents across oceans, the band must have a string of hits almost always requested by the crowd. “Yes,” says Jon emphatically. “The big three would be Livin on a Prayer, Wanted Dead or Alive and It’s My Life.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
