‘Gaga’ over concerts
A rock and roll experience isn’t worth recounting if a riot doesn’t break out or fans don’t storm the stage. And, if a guitar-strumming band member slaps you, consider yourself lucky. Oh! and when the police make an appearance, only to arrest the performing artiste, then such a concert has to be the mother of all gigs.
For the current generation, Lady Gaga has got to be the one of the most controversial musicians. The singer most certainly doesn’t have a poker face when she performs instead she turns into a pork chop of sorts with a meaty dress. In September, when the singer performed at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, in one of the most daring attempts ever, the singer only wore a fishnet bodysuit! Revealing and flaunting her body, Lady Gaga, threw herself into the crowd. Needless to say, all hell broke loose.
Inciting riot most certainly isn’t only Lady Gaga’s forte. Seen as the top craziest concert moment in music history, Axl Rose’s attack on a picture-taking fan has never been lived down. In 1991, during a performance in St. Louis, Axl spotted a fan clicking pictures and decided to make him pay. The band walked off the stage and a riot broke out. Axl was later arrested and charged with inciting the madness that ensued.
The Doors fans site Jim Morrison’s arrest in 1967, during a performance, as one of the most extreme concert moments. The video of Morrison’s arrest continues to grow in popularity and rating to this day. The Light My Fire singer was arrested when he launched into a tirade of obscenities and expletives. The fact that Jim laughed and was full of comical expressions during his arrest, makes this a crazy concert favourite.
And then there are some concerts that go down in history for sheer brilliance. Michael Jackson’s 1988 performance at, the mecca of all arenas, Madison Square Garden (MSG) has been voted as one of greatest concerts of all time. The late singer’s performance on that fateful night is fondly remembered for the magical spell he wove on his fans. With his quirky appearances and animated gestures, the whacko Jacko still continues to live on in the minds of his many adoring fans.
