Zone 9 gets effective cop cover
Officials from Zone 9 — Bandra (west) to Jogeshwari (west) — of the Mumbai police, which has been a hotspot for criminals, are taking extra measures to prevent crime and terror activities.
Recently, the Mumbai police had launched the complaint box system and Mrutunjay Mission across the city. The city police has been divided into 13 zones for policing purpose. Recently, deputy commissioners of the respective zones were handed over the authority of the complaint boxes from the special branch-I, as these boxes were increased from 1,000 to over 3,000 this year.
In Zone 9, deputy commissioner Pratap Dighavkar has entrusted one officer and one constable from each police station to open these boxes on a weekly basis. In the past week,
seven petty complaints were received in the 419 complaint boxes in this zone.
Over and above this, the Zone 9 police has pinned up banners with cellphone numbers of senior police officers. The banners include the cellphone numbers of the senior inspector, beat officer and inspector (crime), so that any case of crime can be reported immediately. “These banners have been placed outside 129 schools and 37 colleges in the zone,” Mr Dighavkar said.
Also, one police officer will visit a college or a school every eight days. “These officers have been entrusted with the work of preventing any untoward incident in the assigned institutes,” he added.
