Yuva Sena treasurer arrested
Yuva Sena treasurer Ajay Ghole was arrested by the Shivaji Park police on Tuesday in connection with the complaint registered against him on Sunday. The Shiv Sena’s youth wing had recently organised a programme at the Shivaji Park, a silence zone, where noise levels exceeded 100 decibels, inviting a police complaint.
According to the Shivaji Park police, Ghole, who had organised the event, was subsequently booked, and was summoned to the police station for questioning on Tuesday morning.
“While being questioned, Ghole said that the party had sought permission for the programme. This is true, but we had denied permission, as the ground has been declared a silence zone. Ghole said that the party decided to go ahead with the programme anyway, despite being denied permission,” said Dhan-anjay Kulkarni, deputy commissioner of police, Zone 5. Ghole was subsequently placed under arrest and later released on a personal bond of `5,000. The police will soon be filing a chargesheet in the case. “We have Ghole’s statement and sound level readings taken during the programme, which have gone up to 113 decibels. We will be filing a chargesheet within a few days,” Mr Kulkarni added.
On Saturday evening, the Yuva Sena had organised a programme featuring percussionist Sivamani. Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray, his son and Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray and Mumbai mayor Sunil Prabhu were among those who attended the event. The Shivaji Park police registered a complaint under provisions of the Environment Prot-ection Act and the Bombay Police Act.
