‘Yashji kept soul of music alive’
From Yeh Kahaan Aa Gaye Hum to Are Re Are, Yash Chopra immortalized romance with evergreen melodious numbers from his films. Industry stalwarts say that he inspired the youth to fall in love gracefully with his numbers. And it was not just the melody that he looked out for, but also the way he picturised every romantic number, which remain etched in the memories of generations to come. Nobody can forget the passionate romance between Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha blooming in the tulip gardens of Netherlands, nor can we forget the love in Shah Rukh Khan’s eyes as he fixes his gaze upon a beautiful Madhuri.
Alka Yagnik, who has worked with Yash Chopra during Darr says that he had an incredible amount of knowledge about music. “His music was as beautiful as the person he was. He loved to listen to music and would often hum as he walked around. I remember him sitting through a music function till the end only because he enjoyed listening to music. The rest of us left early and I was surprised to see him sit till the end. Such was his passion for music,” says Alka.
Ehsaan Noorani, well-known music director believes that simplicity in his music touched the hearts of many. He looked for ada in all his numbers. He kept the soul of music alive through all his songs,” says Ehsaan.
Javed Akhtar, who worked with Chopra in several films, says that he didn’t compromise on ethics and principles. “The dialogues in his movies had literary values. One thing highly appreciable about him was that in the 1980s, which was called the dark era of cinema, he took the challenge without compromising on his ethics,” Akhtar told a news channel.
