Work on last 2 sites gets green signal
Work on the last two construction sites of the Mumbai Metro has begun. The construction works on the Versova–Andheri– Ghatkopar corridor had come to grinding halt due the mosque at Andheri and a temple at Asalfa. However, all the issues have been resolved on the 11km route.
“After Jumma Masjid at Andheri, the representatives of Maheshwar Temple at Asalfa, too have agreed and the last Right of way (RoW) issue has been resolved,” said an official from the MMRDA.
However, temporary sheds at these two religious structures have not been dismantled and are likely to make way for the Metro works in the following week.
The bridge on the Andheri Railway tracks is likely to be ready by mid-November. Also, the Subhash Nagar station at Asalfa may be opened with the commissioning of the metro rail in mid-2013.
According to the agreement between the development body and the private companies, the completion of work was scheduled for March 2012. However, it was rescheduled to November 2012, followed by March 2013 and now the latest deadline is May 2013.
