Woman conned of `23.6K via cellphone
The Dadar police is looking for a man who duped a city-based woman by posing as a representative of a telecom service provider and allegedly “hypnotising” her into making recharges worth `23,600 to 20 different cellphone numbers in UP. The police suspects that the con could be a racket that is being operated from UP.
According to the Dadar police, a case of cheating has been registered against an unknown person on the complaint of 28-year-old Jaya Parekh (name changed), a resident of Charkop in the first week of April.
When contacted, Ms Parekh said that she received five phone calls from an unknown number in April. The caller identified himself as representative of the telecom service provider whose service she uses. He said that she had won a lucky draw of `20,000. Parekh did not believe the man initially and showed no interest in the prize money.
Ms Parekh said, “When he was talking to me, he gave me numbers to recharge. But I seem to have lost consciousness. When I regained consciousness, I realised that I had recharged 20 numbers for `23,600 .”
API of Dadar police Jayendra Sawant confirmed that a case had been registered.
