Wife beats man to death

The Ambedkar Nagar colony in Cuffe Parade was witness to a violent drama on Sunday night, after a local social worker inadvertently beat her alcoholic husband to death, and then surrendered to the police.
According to the police, the incident was reported at around 11.55 pm on Sunday, when a woman from Ambedkar Nagar ran up to two patrolling constables and reported the incident. The constables rushed to the colony to see a crowd gathered around a house.
Sudha Chaudhary (34), a social worker from the area, was sitting on the ground outside the house, crying loudly and lamenting, “Maine mere mard ko maar daala (I killed my husband)”. The constables asked her where her husband was, and she pointed to the house. The policemen ran inside to see the dead body of her husband Vinodkumar (43). He was wearing shorts and his thighs had turned black due to repeated attacks
by a hard and blunt object.
“Vinodkumar was taken to GT Hospital where he was declared dead before admission, while Sudha was taken into custody. After calming her down, we started questioning her,” said an officer with the Cuffe Parade police.
Sudha said that Vinodkumar was an alcoholic, and this led to severe fights between the couple. On Sunday, he came home drunk as usual, and the same afternoon, Sudha had discovered that `10,000 that she had saved were missing. When she asked Vinodkumar about the money, and he admitted to have stolen and spent it on alcohol.
“A furious Sudha started slapping Vinodkumar. When he retaliated, she hit him on the legs and in the torso with a wooden bat used while washing clothes. The blows, according to a preliminary opinion by doctors, are believed to have caused severe damage to his internal organs, some of which were already damaged due to sustained alcohol abuse. Post mortem reports are awaited for exact cause of death,” the officer added.
Sudha was arrested and charged with murder. She has been remanded to police custody till Friday, the police said.
