Warning board placed outside Shakti Mills
The NM Joshi Marg police, investigating the latest gangrape case of the 19-year-old telephone operator, has put up a board outside the deserted Shakti Mills warning people of the isolated spot and also mentioned telephone numbers of the police station in case of emergencies. Requests regarding posting permanent security guards and fencing the nearby railway line to prevent trespassing have been made with various authorities.
An officer from the NM Joshi police station said, “We put up a board outside the mill’s entrance warning people about the area being a den of anti-social elements. In case of crime-related emergencies, we have mentioned telephone numbers of the police stations which people can immediately call.” The police has also written a letter to the official liquidator of the Bombay high court — who is in charge of the property due to the ongoing legal battle — to provide for permanent security guards at the premises. Senior PI Sudhakar Ghagare confirmed the developments.
Meanwhile, the police has sent samples of the girl and the minor accused for DNA analysis to JJ Hospital. “We had found torn clothes of the accused and the victim at the spot and sent them for analysis, but chances of finding anything else are slim since the crime took place a month ago,” an officer said. Further, the case has been tranferred to the crime branch.
The minor, currently in the juvenile remand home, was picked up from his residence at Sane Guruji Nagar and identified through blade slashes on his arm. The absconding accused Ashfaq, also booked in the new case, is still being hunted. “He had been on the run since the August 22 case of the photojournalist after his name was revealed in the interrogation of some of the five accused who said he was a part of the extended gang,” a senior officer said. Four teams have been formed to trace him. In another major development, the female photojournalist has identified the minor accused.
