VARSITY TEACHERS YET TO RECIEVE MODFIED SYLLABUS
Teachers in degree colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai are in a fix, as they are unaware of the syllabus that they have to teach for the academic year 2012-13. While colleges re-opened 10 days ago, teachers claimed that they are yet to receive the modified syllabus.
Speaking about their dilemma, a teacher of history at a suburban college said, “We have no clue as to what is to be taught. At the time of the college re-opening, we were told
that the University would be putting up the new syllabus on its website, but nothing has been done yet.”
Teachers of literature, accountancy and some other subjects from all three faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce are facing similar problems.
When asked about the same, a Bombay Univers-ity and College Teachers Union (BUCTU) official said that many subjects from the three faculties had to be modified to suit the credit-based system that was introduced last year. “As this has to be approved by the Board of Studies, academic council and the review committee, there could have been a possible delay in uploading the modified syllabi on the MU’s website,” the BUCTU official said.
When contacted, Dr Naresh Chandra, pro-vice-chancellor, MU, initially refused to accept that syllabi of all subjects were not declared as yet. However, he later retracted, saying, “The MU has received suggestions regarding modifications to the syllabi from various quarters, and we will try to include it wherever possible before announcing.”
