Transfer of 150 hectares of state land for Navi Mumbai airport in final stages
The Maharashtra government will soon transfer around 150 hectares of land to the City Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) for the Navi Mumbai International Airport project. Cidco is the nodal and implementing agency for the `10,000 crore mega project. Transfer of the land, currently belonging to the state revenue department, is in the advanced stages of approval and will be officially allotted to Cidco in the next two months.
The transfer process was initiated last year when Cidco sent proposals and details of government land required for the project. This also comes in the backdrop of the announcement made by deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar last year, when he promised to expedite the land transfer process for the already delayed project. “The land will be transferred free of cost to Cidco and we are coordinating with Mantralaya officials for the same. We are checking if they have some prerequisites or conditions that come as a part of the protocol that need to be fulfilled,” said a Cidco official, requesting anonymity.
The airport project is spread over 2,054 hectares of land, where around 424 hectares need to be acquired from private landowners and villagers, and 150 hectares belongs to the state government. Cidco is already in possession of 1,405 hectares. The agency is also engaged in negotiations with 10 villages to arrive at a suitable compensation package for the land. Officials say this private land acquisition is currently the greatest hurdle and a final deal with the villagers will be a major breakthrough in the project.
