Tighter security along coast to restrict vessels
In a bid to tighten coastal security, the Port Zone police has restricted the landing of international vessels and other small boats at over 60 points out of the 66 landing points across the city’s vast coastline.
Additional commissioner, south region, Krishna Prakash said, “The security at Colaba, Mazgaon dock and other few places is adequate and hence, international vessels are allowed to come in. However, many landing points across the city do not have adequate security and hence, we have restricted them for international vessels. In case an unknown vessel lands here, we will be alerted.” The police in the south Mumbai region, which covers Zaveri Bazaar, Opera House, CST, Nariman House and other places that have been attacked by terrorists in the past, has taken several security measures to ensure that such incidents are averted in the future.
“There are 130 sensitive areas and vital installations in the south region which includes the temples, mosques, high court, Mantralaya, malls, congested public places and other residences of VVIPs,” said Mr Prakash. Around 742 such sensitive areas in Mumbai have been marked and are being regularly checked.
