Thane yard project haunts CR
The side effects of Thane yard remodelling are still hampering the Central Railway’s operations. Announcements have been affected and indicators showing expected time of arrival at all stations have gone blank. Although the indicators were not fully functional even before the yard remodelling, the present situation simply adds to the existing woes.
These problems have cropped up because the CR’s Train Management System (TMS) has gone haywire due to the Thane yard remodelling work, because of which integration and incorporation of the announcement module with the operation module has not been done completely yet.
However, a senior official from CR passed the buck to the contractor and said, “The Bombardier company is tackling this problem and by Friday, all functions should be restored. The contractor is expected to finish the task very soon.”
When asked, general manager of CR, Subodh Jain said, “I am personally monitoring the yard remodelling, and if there is any problem related to TMS, it will be rectified soon.”
Expressing his distress upon the non-functioning of indicators, a daily traveller from Ghatkopar, Mayank Dave said, “It seems that all the money spent on indicators has gone into the pockets of railway officials. When indicators were functional, I had the option of taking either a slow or a fast train, but I cannot do that.”
