‘Task force to check on development of airports’
Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Monday announced that the Central and the state governments have formed a special task force to oversee the development of airports in the state.
The task force will comprise officers from various departments like civil aviation ministry, Directorate General of Civil Aviation and state urban development department.
“The committee will help in expediting the development work of other airports planned in the state, in coordination with the Union government,” Mr Chavan said.
The CM and civil aviation minister Ajit Singh also took a helicopter tour of the Juhu and Mumbai airports to survey the proposed expansion plans.
Speaking about the pending land acquisition issues plaguing the expansion of the Mumbai and the Navi Mumbai airports, Mr Chavan said the state is negotiating with project affected persons to find a solution. “There are 80,000 hutments in Kurla and the adjoining areas that need to be rehabilitated. The MMRDA is working on a new rehabilitation plan,” he said.
