Stepfather abused minor kids, arrested
The Nallasopara police has arrested a 49-year-old stepfather for reportedly raping his 11-year-old daughter and having unnatural sex with his 12-year-old son.
According to the police, the accused used to live with his family in a chawl in Nallasopara. The children were living with him for the past few years and the sexual abuse was going on for the last two years.
An FIR was registered on Saturday after both victims confided in her mother, who works with a private company. The sexual abuse usually took place during weekends. Their mother has also alleged that the accused threatened to kill them if they approached the police.
“We have booked the accused under Section 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex) and 506 (criminal intimidation). He was produced in a magistrate’s court on Sunday and remanded to our custody till July 4. We have sent both the victims for a medical test. We are awaiting the report of medical examination,” said investigating official, sub inspector, Sunil Lokhande.

Man crashes bike into pole, killed

A 34-year-old man, employed with the Naval Armament Depot (NAD) at Uran in Navi Mumbai, ,was killed on his way to office after his speeding Bajaj Pulsar bike rammed into a pole on Saturday night.
According to the Mora Coastal police station the incident took place at around 9 pm in NAD on the Tunir Road. The deceased has been identified as Jaydas Damodar Mhatre.
“Mhatre was riding without a helmet and over speeding. He lost control over the bike and rammed into a pole on the side of the road. He suffered grievous head injuries and minor injuries on his body,” said investigating officer and assistant sub-inspector Tulisadas Kumbhar of the Mora police station.
Mhatre is survived by his wife and a five-year-old son. Mhatre had left from his house in Karanja’s Kondripada Village, which is around 10 kilometres away from his office.
Another Indian Navy employee, Sunil Malusare, who heard a loud thud, rushed to the spot and saw Mhatre lying unconscious. Mr Malusare then checked his pocket and found his identity card.
The police was consequently alerted and Mhatre was taken to Indira Gandhi Hospital, but was declared dead soon after. “We have registered a case of causing death due to negligence against Mhatre under Section 304 A of the IPC,” added Mr Kumbhar.
