State asks CBI to take over probe

With investigations by state CID into the death of three minor sisters under mysterious circumstances in Bhandara district earlier this year coming unstuck, the Maharashtra government has once again requested the CBI to take up the probe into the case.
“Earlier also we had requested the CBI to probe the case but they refused saying the investigation by police is on a right track. Recently, we have sent a letter to the CBI requesting them to take over the investigations,” state home minister R.R. Patil told reporters on Tuesday.
According to the police, three sisters, aged 6, 9 and 11 respectively, and missing since February 14, 2013 were allegedly raped and murdered by unidentified person(s) and their bodies found dumped in a farm well near Murmadi village in the east Maharashtra district on February 16.
However, the exact cause of death and whether they were sexually assaulted could not be conclusively established by agencies.
Earlier this year, Mr Patil had ruled out the possibility of rape citing forensic reports received from Delhi’s AIIMS and Mumbai’s JJ Hospital and KEM Hospital, which apparently held that the girls were not subjected to any sexual assault before being killed.
Even six months after the incident, which came on the heels of December 2012 Delhi gangrape, the case remains unsolved.
Mr Patil also informed that the state government has forwarded a letter to the CBI to conduct probe into the death of a Delhi-based nurse Preeti Rathi (23) in an acid attack in Mumbai.
An unidentified man had flung acid on Rathi when she had alighted from a train at Bandra Terminus on May 2. She died after being on ventilator support for two weeks.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
