Son’s bail plea rejected
The Thane sessions court on Tuesday rejected the anticipatory bail application filed by murder victim Sandhya Singh’s son, Raghuveer Singh.
Raghuveer, this year on June 22, had filed an anticipatory bail application with the Thane sessions court, after he was repeatedly questioned by the crime branch. From day one, investigators suspected foul play on Raghuveer’s part. Even recently, investigators came across several contradictions in his statements.
A crime branch official said that the court rejected his application, saying that as the case is a sensitive one and because relations were strained between him and Sandhya, the police needed a chance to reach a conclusion in the investigations. Joint commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Roy said that the crime branch would soon take a call on further action regarding Raghuveer.
Suspicions on Raghuveer were first aroused when the statement he gave to the police about Sandhya’s movements on the day of her disappearance contradicted with the statements given by other eyewitnesses.
“In his statement Raghuveer had said that Sandhya had left for a relative’s place in Juhu, whereas several people said that she had left saying that she was going to the bank to deposit some jewellery. When his sister called him the next day, he told her that Sandhya had taken sedatives and was sleeping. Raghuveer has denied mentioning this in his statement,” said an officer.
