Shop burgled of gold worth `70L, case filed
The Kurla police has registered a case against a 26-year-old man, an employee with a jewellery shop, after he ran away with cash and two kilograms of gold worth `70 lakh on Monday morning. The accused had started working at the shop only around 10 days ago and also took the CCTV camera recordings.
According to the police, Rajendra Solanki was hired by the owner, Naveen Deopura (28), and was tasked with opening the shop every morning. “On Monday, he reached the owner’s residence at Kurla (west) between 8.30 am and 9 am and took the keys of the shop for cleaning it. When he did not return for a long time, Mr Deopura’s wife became suspicious and informed her husband. He reached the shop and found it burgled with 2 kg gold and `2.5 lakh cash missing,” said an officer from Kurla police station.
DCP (zone 5) Dhananjay Kulkarni said, “He has also taken away the unit which contains recordings of the surveillance cameras. We are, however, preparing reliable sketches and three teams have been formed to trace him. It is possible he might have fled back to Rajasthan, but we are exploring other possibilities as well.” The police is also taking the help Solanki’s brother.
