Senior PI of Panvel police transferred over bar raid
In the wake of 90 girls, including 32 minors, being rescued from a bar in Panvel, the Navi Mumbai police has transferred one of its officers and sent another senior officer on a “long leave”.
Senior police inspector Ramesh Ghadawale of the Panvel police station has been transferred to the Navi Mumbai police control room, while DCP (Zone 2) Pramod Shivale has been sent on a forced leave.
The reason behind the action is the officers’ failure to act upon the bar located just 3 km away from Panvel police station, which was brazenly involved in prostitution.
On May 2, a team of 19 officers led by the Thane rural police additional superintendent Sangram-singh Nishandar in collaboration with an NGO, Indian Rescue Mission, raided the Kapal Bar and Dimple Lodge in Panvel.
The police had arrested 45 people, including the owner Joyesh Shetty (44) and the waiters and also recovered jewellery worth `24 lakh and `1.5 crore in cash. Another proprietor Raju Shetty is, however, absconding.
Members of the IRM had shared information on the racket with the police following which the director general Sanjeev Dayal ordered IG (Konkan Range) Sukhwinder Singh to conduct the raid.
Additional commissioner Fattehsingh Patil confirmed the development. “Senior PI Ghadawale was transferred to the control room and DCP Shivale was asked to take leave. The reason behind the decision is that the local police failed to take action against the bar,” he said.
