Sena wants Prabhat as prefix to FTII
Chitrapat Sena, the film workers union of Shiv Sena, has demanded that the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) based in Pune be rechristened as ‘Prabhat FTII’.
Actor Adhesh Bandekar, who heads the Shiv Sena-promoted film worker’s union said, “On June 1, Prabhat Studio will complete 85 years. The studio has been witness to the golden era of Marathi cinema and it would be a fitting tribute to the studio to rename the institute as Prabhat FTII.”
Mr Bandekar also shared that the idea to rename the FTII as Prabhat FTII germinated within the Chitrapat Sena. Mr Bandekar said, “It was actually veteran actor Shrikant Moghe’s idea to not let Prabhat Studios be erased from public memory and that FTII be renamed Prabhat FTII.”
The Chitrapat Sena has written a letter to the director of FTII, D.J. Narain and also to Shiv Sena MPs in Delhi so that they give the cause a push at the Centre and see its fruition.
However, the director of the institute seemed unaware of such a demand. Speaking to The Asian Age, Mr Narain said, “I have not yet received any such communication from any one. As and when I do, I will be in a position to comment on it.”
Prabhat Studios was declared a heritage site by the PMC and is used by the students to this day. The FTII is an autonomous body under the ministry of information and broadcasting of the government of India. A governing council determines its policies.
