Riots devised to get LS seats: Pawar
NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday took a jibe at Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi by saying that “some people” have started dreaming of becoming the prime minister. He accused him of creating conflict in the name of caste and religion to get sufficient seats and fulfill his dreams. Mr Pawar was referring to the communal riots that occurred at Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing the Sarv Bhashik Shramjeevi Sammelan organised for the “unorganised labourers” working in
Mumbai and the suburbs, Mr Pawar took potshots at the Gujarat chief minister, but chose not to mention his name.
He said that some people had started dreaming of becoming the prime minister and attempts were being made to get votes by spreading communal hatred.
“After realising that they don’t have sufficient seats in the Lok Sabha, efforts are being made in the country today to create clashes in the name of caste, religion and language. These people are of the view that they could make a comeback through these tactics,” the union agriculture minister said.
Referring to the Muzaffarnagar riots, he said that these aspiring prime ministers adopt filthy strategies and would soon get suitable a response in the upcoming polls. “Those who believe in secularism should come together and raise their voice against these communal forces,” Mr Pawar stated.
All senior ministers and leaders from the party were present at the function, including home minister R.R. Patil, state president Bhaskar Jadhav and executive president Jitandra Awhad, among others. Vice-president Vijay Kamble had organised the sammelan at Colgate Maidan in suburban Bandra.
Taunting Mr Modi, he also mentioned a Marathi idiom — Utaavla nawra gudghyala baashing — which means that the groom in his eagerness to get married, has worn the head ornament on his knees, clearly indicating that Mr Modi was in a haste to become the prime minister.
Pointing to the communal riots at Muzaffarnagar, the NCP chief announced that his party would provide relief to the affected families. “Maharashtra has always spearheaded when it comes to helping people in need,” Mr Pawar said.
