‘Patrolling’ cop mows down guard in Saki Naka
The Saki Naka police has registered a complaint against one of its own constables after his car hit two people in Saki Naka early on Sunday morning. The police has sent his blood samples for examination to check for inebriation at the time of the incident.
According to police sources, the incident occu-rred near the Sukh Shanti Bar and Restaurant on the Andheri–Ghatkopar Link Road at around 5 am on Sunday. The accused, Shivaji Borde (45), is currently posted as a constable with the Saki Naka police and was patrolling in a friend’s Maruti car when he lost control. He ran over two security guards who were guarding the site of the ongoing Metro Rail construction.
Borde and the two others were rushed to Param-ount Hospital, where one of the victims, identified as Gopinath Shinde, was declared dead before admission.
The other guard, identified as Bhajan Kewat (50) has suffered injuries on his legs.
“Borde has been booked for causing death as well as injury due to rash and negligent driving,” said Samadhan Dhanedhar, senior police inspector, Saki Naka police station.
