Only 5% Indian women on corporate boards
The Deloitte Global Center for Corporate Governance report reveals that in 2012, just five per cent of Indians on corporate boards were women.
The women branch of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Ficci), Ficci Flo on Saturday organised Winspiring 2020, an event aimed at changing the above-mentioned scenario and cultivating female entrepreneurial success.
Parvathy Ramaswamy, chairperson of Ficci Flo, described Winspiring as “a roadmap for women to reach entrepreneurial success by the year 2020.” The conference stems from Swayam, an e-advisory service for women entrepreneurs. The speakers at the event ranged from eminent fashion designers and hoteliers, to professors, motivational speakers, and bank directors. All these people seemed to identify with a unified key to success: all the resources to succeed are abundantly available for women.
Dr Nandini Vaidyanathan, a professor of Entrepreneurship at multiple universities, and the moderator of the panel, gave a
presentation on how to use social media to grow a business. She outlined all the various tools available today, from websites like LinkedIn to forums tailored to a specific field. She ended by assuring the crowd that all the resources already exist, and women need to use them to make themselves an irreplaceable part of the workforce.
