One more dengue death in Goregaon
The second successive death due to dengue was reported on Wednesday from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital (KDAH).
A 12-year-old boy from Motilal Nagar in Goregaon (W) became the fourth victim of the mosquito-borne disease in the city this year. Motilal Nagar is only a few metres away from Shastri Nagar, which reported a dengue outbreak recently.
A Class 7 student, Anup B. Kharwar, was taking treatment from a local physician for the past one week. Noticing no improvement in his condition, he was advised hospitalisation by his doctor. “He was first taken to the nearby Kapadia Hospital on Tuesday morning, where the doctors confirmed that he had dengue. They advised us to take him to a bigger hospital, as his condition seemed critical,” said a relative adding that Kharwar was later shifted to KDAH.
The hospital reported Kharwar’s cause of death to be “dengue shock syndrome.” However, the civic body did not have any confirmation on Kharwar’s death or the fact that a dengue death was reported.
Meanwhile, a 75-year-old woman succumbed to H1N1 in Kasturba Hospital at Arthur Road in Chinchpokli. “The female patient was admitted to Kasturba Hospital for diarrhoea, vomiting, and breathlessness on Tuesday and she passed away on the same night,” said chief epidemiologist, Dr Mangla Gomare, BMC. The cause of her death according to the BMC was, “pnemonitis with sepsis with septic shock with H1N1 positive status and was a known hypertensive.”
