Now, get live flight info on your television
After around a million viewers started getting live flight information on their set-top boxes a fortnight ago, the service will now be extended to around 2.5 million to 3 million digital cable TV users. The move has been made after agreements between digital cable services and a TV channel came into force.
Five digital cable service providers have already started getting access to the channel after a tie-up with Kilometer Zero Pvt. Ltd., a new television channel. Kilometer Zero had in turn entered into an agreement with the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Air-port in April to get a digital link of the flight status display system.
The five digital cable service providers include Digicable, Hathway, Ben Satellite, Home Cable and Space Mission.
A spokesperson from infrastructure firm GVK, which is currently managing the Mumbai airport confirmed the development. Sources said that the channel has entered into a barter agreement with GVK, which includes airing advertisements in return for the live flight information feeds.
G. Srinivas, one of the promoters of Kilometer Zero, said that they are in the process of stricking a deal with other service providers, which is likely to materialise in the next 15 days.
“The channel is already being accessed by subscribers of ABS Star in Bandra area. Soon, Malad residents will also get the service,” he said.
“Apart from flight information, we are also in the process of holding talks with the Indian Railways to display information about outstation trains,” Mr Srinivas added.
Asked whether the channel would a paid service, Mr Srinivas said that it is a “free to air channel as of now,” but did not comment on future plans of charging for the service.
