NET exam pass percentage goes up by 3.6
The declaration of results for the National Eligibility Test (NET) on Monday has brought a smile on the faces of aspirants from Mumbai, as the pass percentage has gone up from last year’s 2.4 per cent to 6 per cent.
According to officials, the increase in the pass percentage has been due to the changes in the format of the examination. In fact, the popularity of NET exams among aspirants can be gauged from the fact that the number of students enrolling for the exams in December has gone up from 4,300 to 9,400.
Speaking about the improvement in the NET results, Dr D. Harichandan, NET/SLET coordinator for Mumbai said the NET exam format was more concise and student friendly. “Students appearing for the specialisation third paper are not asked irrelevant questions. The earlier format expected aspirants to know about non-related issues. Even if they managed to clear the first two papers easily, the failure in the third paper forced them to reappear for the test,” Dr Harichandan said.
In fact, he added that as the Delhi University’s decision to change the format of the NET exams was not properly advertised, the number of applicants for the May exams this year had been less. “Aspirants are now aware of the new format, and this is reflected in the fact that the number of applications we have already received for the December NET exams has doubled,” Dr Harichandan said.
After the government order asking teachers and professors wanting to get regularised to become NET/SLET qualified within two years, aspirants are rushing to apply for the NET.
