Nashik protests water release for Aurangabad

About 3,000-million cubic ft of water or 3 TMC was released from Bhandardara dam in the Ahmednagar district for Jayakwadi dam in Marathwada, even as scores of water activists tried to stop the release of water release from Darna dam in Nashik district. The water will take about three days to reach Jayakwadi.
However, Shiv Sena deputy leader MLA Baban Gholap said that there was no shortage of water in the Nashik district, and it could be given to “Dharashiv” or for any other national purpose. “Some political leaders are making it a prestige issue, but the issue can be sorted out if the district guardian minister and MLAs sat and discussed it,” he said.
Assistant police inspector Suhash Deshmukh said that they have detained 13 activists, including Sena ex-MLA Kashinath Mengal, who is now with the MNS in Nashik. Other activists have blocked the gates of the canal in Yeola in Nashik district, from where the water will flow into Aurangabad.
Nashik irrigation division executive engineer A.N. Mhaske told The Asian Age that three TMC water was released from Bhandardara and three TMC would be released from Darna dam on Friday.

BMC wants call on funeral structure
Age correspondent
Mumbai, Nov. 29

With December 6, the death anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, approaching fast, the BMC wants to take an immediate call on the temporary structure at Shivaji Park, where the funeral rites of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray were conducted.
Mr Thackeray was cremated publicly on November 18 at Shivaji Park, where now a small dais exists on which his photo has been kept to allow people to pay homage to him. However, in a bid to make preparations for the December 6 events, the civic body has asked the municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte on what steps needs to be taken about the makeshift structure.
In an internal report sent to the civic chief, the ward officials have made it clear that the permission for structure was given to Shiv Sena only for one day. It has also asked about the measures, which needs to be taken regarding the structure.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
