Mumbai girl tops May CA final exam
Mumbaikars had reason to be proud after Kruti Shah, a resident of Borivali, was declared the All-India topper of the CA Final May 2013 exams, which was declared on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old has said that the achievement is not new to her, as she has consistently been topping her exams, and plans to continue her studies, rather than bask in the glory.
Speaking to The Asian Age, Shah said that while initially, she had not fared well, her performance picked up in the next group, which came as a relief. “I had been practising hard for a year, and had concentrated only on preparing for the exams after graduating last year. Hence, I was disappointed with my performance in the first paper of group I,” said the former NM College student. The support her father, CA Bhadresh Shah, also an established chartered accountant, helped tide her over her disappointment, and strengthened her resolve to do better in the following papers.
“I managed to score 611 marks from both groups, and was surprised that I was the topper,” said Shah. “I plan to work with a CA firm other than my father’s for a couple of years, and get more insight into taxation laws. I will also be pursuing a degree in law,” she added.
Shah’s father said, “I am happy with my daughter’s achievement, and am proud of her performance. I do not want to influence her decision in any way, and have left her to choose her career path.”
In total, 50,354 students appeared for both groups of the finals, out of whom 9,389 students succeeded.
