MU goofs up with TYBCom paper
Over 600 students appearing for the TYBCom examination of the University of Mumbai were left in the lurch on Tuesday, after they were given question papers that were based on the revised curriculum of the Business Economics-Paper III, while they were actually supposed to appear for the exam based on the old syllabus.
After the students objected, the question papers at 18 examination centres — where the goof-up
occurred — were replaced, but only 90 minutes after the scheduled time of the exam.
According to an officer in-charge of examinations in a suburban college, the problem came to light soon after the question papers were distributed.
“We realised that it was a genuine mistake by the University. We contacted the University immediately, but the replacement paper came by fax after an hour,” he said.
The problem was restricted to 612 students of the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL),
who are appearing for the exam, based on the old syllabus and question paper pattern.
When asked about the regular problems faced by IDOL students director Dr D. Harichandan said, “This is the problem of the examination section. We also asked the examination centers to allow the students the time that they had lost due to the mix-up.”
However, University sources revealed that the examination centres had forgotten to print the said question paper. One of the centres at Mulund will have a re-exam on April 10, as the paper could not be faxed.
