MU to bring in new measures to curb paper leaks
In a major move to curb paper leaks, the University of Mumbai has initiated new two processes to ensure that a repeat of last month’s paper leak fiasco never occurs again.
While the first immediate step will be to send the question papers to all colleges only an hour before the scheduled time, the other will be pertaining to colleges where emailing the paper is not possible and sealed packages will instead require signature of the concerned authorities. This is to ensure that the seal remains unbroken till exam time.
According to University officials, these methods will be implemented from the next academic year and will make paper leaks impossible. Sources said that the University had called a meeting of principals earlier in the week to discuss ways and means to curb paper leaks. “University officials showed concern over the paper leaks and requested the principals to extend support to ensure that it was not repeated,” said a principal who attended the meeting.
Referring to the new measures, officials assured the principals that no stone was being left unturned to figure out the sources of the leaks and plug them. “All efforts are being made to plug the leaks and the University has planned to introduce two new measures that will ensure a permanent solution,” said Dr Naresh Chandra, pro-vice-chancellor, MU during the meeting.
Dr Chandra explained that the University would send question papers to all colleges an hour before the scheduled time. He requested principals to cooperate and get a system in place to multiply the question papers efficiently so that exams started on time.
In the second measure, question papers that have to be physically sent in sealed packages would need the signatures of the chief conductor of examination, joint conductor who will be appointed by the University, and two students to ensure that the seals of the packages were not broken before the exam.
