Mhada gives out 2,593 homes

On Thursday, 2,593 people won the housing lottery draw that the Mhada conducted. The housing authority also announced their plans for the coming year and said that as many as 4,356 homes will be put up next year.
However, due to the NDA-sponsored Bharat bandh called on Thursday, there were very few people when compared to the previous years at the lottery draw event held at the Rangsharda Auditorium.
One of the winners on Thursday was Sanjay Kokane from Chandrapur, who had come down to Mumbai for the lottery draw. After the results were declared, Mr Kokane said, “I was born in Mumbai, but later had to shift to interior Maharas-htra. Till date, I have appl-ied four times for a Mhada home and this year, I finally got one in Mira Road.”
On the other hand, Ganesh Prabhu Khot had applied for the first time and was lucky enough to bag a home at Malwani, Malad in the low-income group category. What is more interesting is that he was also the randomly chosen civilian by the housing body officials to supervise the lottery draw.
Speaking about the plans for next year, Bhausaheb Dangde, chief officer of Mumbai and Konkan Housing and Area Development Boards said, “People will see more homes coming up for the lottery draw next year as compared to this year. As per our current plans, it is possible to put up over 4,300 homes for sale in various locations of Mumbai as well as in Virar.”
In different areas of Mumbai, a total of 1,870 tenements can be expected as against the 2,486 affordable homes in Virar.
While it is doubtful if there will be any homes for high-income group applicants in the coming year, one can expect more homes under the economically weaker section, low-income and middle income group.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
