Megacity plan: IIT-B has role in NYC centre
The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) will now be providing its academic expertise in the United States as it has been selected to partner a consortium to establish the Center for Urban Science and Progress in New York. According to IIT-B officials,faculty that specialises in engineering and science related to urban studies from IIT-B will be sent to centre.
Explaining the concept of CUSP Prof Devang Khakhar, director, IIT-B said, “The centre presents a new opportunity to address the challenges of megacities using New York City as its laboratory and by imparting education with a focus on the planning, building and managing megacities.”
The consortium that is led by New York University, includes Carnegie Mellon University, the City University of New York, the University of Toronto and the University of Warwick, as its academic partners. IBM, Cisco and Metropolitan Transportation Authority have also joined in as industry partners.
