‘Mandals can lose permits’
Mumbai CP Satyapal Singh on Saturday said that the police would reconsider permissions given to Ganesh
mandals if any case of eve-teasing is reported. He also said that mandals should report even the slightest of suspicious thing as “the threat of terrorism looms large”.
Mr Singh gave these directions at a function at Bhaidas Hall in Juhu where over a 1,000 volunteers from several mandals had gathered. Top police officials and celebrities were present to sensitise them on security measures.
“If any cases of molestation or eve-teasing is reported within the mandal’s premises, we will think on cancelling their registration for next year,” he said.
“The police will definitely be present at the pandals but if any incident is reported then we will take action against the mandal,” Mr Singh added.
He also said, “The threat of terrorism looms large, so please report even the slightest of suspicious thing to the police. The public needs to inculcate qualities of Lord Ganesh by keeping their eyes, ears and nose open.”
“The Ganesh mandal volunteers will have to share responsibility to ensure that nuisances like gambling,
consuming liquor or chain-snatching don’t take place anywhere in the vicinity. From our side, we have formed
special squads to curb incidents of eve-teasing and molestation,” he added.
