Man rapes 7-year-old, held
The Shivajinagar police has arrested a 21-year-old accused for allegedly raping his 7-year-old neighbour when she was alone at her residence. The incident took place around 8 days ago. The victim’s family observed that the girl remained
disturbed, following which it filed a complaint. The police arrested the accused on Friday and is awaiting the victim’s medical reports to ascertain if she was raped.
The accused, Imran Shamim Khan (21), lived with his friend in the Shivajinagar area and the girl resided right next door with her family. “The accused had split with his family members and come to live with his friend around a year ago. Over a period of time, the girl and her family became fairly acquainted with him. On the day of the incident, the accused reached home to find the girl alone. He entered her residence and began touching her inappropriately, and then forced himself upon her. He then threatened her with dire consequences if she spoke about the incident,” said an officer from the Shivajinagar police station.
On Friday, the girl was visiting her maternal grandmother with her family when the old woman observed that she was exhibiting symptoms of depression. “The grandmother felt something amiss when the girl seemed lost and disturbed. Upon questioning, she broke down and narrated the incident,” the officer added.
Senior PI Radheshyam Aggarwal said, “We have filed an FIR following a complaint by the victim’s grandmother and arrested the accused on Friday. He has been booked under Section 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (PCSOA).” The accused was produced in a court where the police demanded his custody, while the victim was taken to Nagpada Police Hospital for a medical check-up. The medical report is awaited.
