Man arrested for raping 4-year-old
The Arnala police arrested a 29-year-old daily wage labourer for reportedly raping a four-year-old girl in a Nallasopara slum on Saturday.
According to the police, the incident took place at a bushy area in a secluded ground next to the slum in Achole Village on Achole road. Both the victim and the accused Rahul Choudhary live in the same neighbourhood. Choudh-ary lured the girl to the slum by offering her a chocolate, the police said.
After her parents, who are also daily wage labourers, returned home at night, they found the girl upset. On asking the reason, she narrated the sequence of events to her parents. Her mother immediately rushed her to a hospital, where the doctor, after examining the injuries on her private parts asked the parents to approach the police. On Sunday afternoon, the parents went to the Nallasopara police station, where a case of rape was registered under the Indian Penal Code and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, following which Choud-hary was immediately arrested. “We registered a case based on the girl’s first medical report, which states that she suffered injuries to her private parts,” said investigating official, assistant inspector Priyatama Muthe of the Arnala police station.
The case was registered at the Nallasopara police station, however, due to shortage of women officers there, the Arnala police has taken over the case as per a high court directive.
The girl was sent for another medical examination on Sunday and her medical report is awaited. “We produced him in court, which granted us the accused’s custody till May 13. He will be sent for a medical examination,” Mr Muthe.
