In order to reduce the number of pending court cases, the Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) of the Bombay high court along with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of Nagpur, will be organising its fifth Maha Lok Adalat on March 3.
The total pending cases in the Nagpur district is more than 20 lakhs, including 50,000 civil cases and 1,54,940 criminal cases. Of these, 15,454 pending cases will be placed before the Maha Lok Adalat.
This adalat will be held at all the lower courts, including the taluka, family, industrial, labour and cooperative courts, school tribunal, motor accident claims tribunal and other tribunals.
During the adalat, cases concerning land acquisition, compoundable criminal cases, matrimonial disputes, motor accidents claim petitions, cheque bouncing cases, will be taken up and will be resolved amicably.
Efforts are on to identify cases to be placed before the Maha Lok Adalat by the team, which comprises judges, public prosecutors, trained mediators, advocates, staff and District Legal Services Authority headed by principal
district judge Subhash Mohod.
Enquiry counters have been opened on the ground floor of the District Court building, where information related to the Lok Adalat can be obtained.
Each panel will consist of a serving or retired judicial officer, a lawyer and para-legal volunteers or social workers, assisted by two law college students and staff.
Noting the increase in pending legal matters, the MSLSA and the DLSA had organised a Maha Adalat for the first time two years ago, on February 6, 2011.
In the first Maha Lok Adalat, around 1.23 lakh cases were resolved.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
