Leopard injured in a hit-and-run case
In a hit-and-run case, a fully-grown male leopard sustained serious injuries after an unknown motorist rammed into the wild cat during the early hours of Wednesday at Film City in Goregaon (E).
“The incident occurred just after midnight and I received a call at 2.30 am, after which my team of veterinary and forest officials went to the spot,” said Sunil Limaye, chief conservator of forest and director of Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP).
According to him, a speeding vehicle must have hit the leopard and the wild cat has suffered injuries on his side. “Today the leopard has started eating and has responded positively to the treatment; we hope it will not take long for it to go back into the wild,” said Mr Limaye.
The forest department has now planned to approach the local civic office to request them to have speed breakers on the Film City Road so that such accidents do not recur.
