Lady leaves infant at CST
A three-month-old infant was abandoned at the high security Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) by an unidentified woman on Saturday night.
According to CST Government Railway Police, a passenger Manoj Ashok Vishwakarma (40), who hails from Madhya Pradesh approached them saying that a woman wearing a green salwar-kurta had abandoned a boy on platform 12-13.
“The woman asked Vishwakarma to take care of the boy on pretext of making a phone call. The woman assured him that she would return in 10 minutes. However, the woman did not return for half-an-hour after which Vishwakarma started looking for her, but to no avail. He then brought the boy to the CST GRP,” said Somnath Tambe, police inspector from CST GRP.
The police is now in the process of gathering CCTV footage to identify the woman. “We will monitor the CCTV footage to find any clue in this case. The boy was neatly dressed and is healthy,” said Mr Tambe.
CST GRP has sent wireless messages to the police stations in the city, informing them about the infant. “We are also checking if there is any missing person’s complaint registered,” Tambe.
A complaint under section 317 (Exposure and abandonment of child under 12 years, by parent or person caring for it) has been registered in this regard.
The CST station was recently in news for two cases of kidnapping. A 10-month-old boy was kidnapped from CST on October 3. The woman, said to be in her mid 30s, lifted Sagar Mahat at around 4 am on October 3, while he was sleeping alongside his grandmother Ranjana. The police is yet to make any breakthrough in the case.
