Install CCTVs in SRAs to prevent crime in city: BJP
In the backdrop of rising crime incidents in the city, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded that it should be made mandatory for developers to install close circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all the buildings of Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) projects in the city.
BJP corporator Vinod Shelar called upon Nirmal Deshmukh, chief executive officer, SRA, on Thursday and demanded that CCTVs should be installed in all SRA buildings to ensure safety of people.
Mr Shelar said, “The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) should ask the developers in the SRA schemes to install CCTVs at the main entrance and other premises of the buildings before giving them occupation certificate (OC). The security post should also be made mandatory along with all safety equipment in these buildings. The BMC should make these changes in the city development plan.”
At present, there are nearly 2,000 projects being implemented in the city under the SRA scheme.
Mr Shelar said, “Mumbai is a city of international standards and its population has been rising manifold. Incidents like rapes, robbery, kidnapping, extortion have also been happening frequently in the city. To ensure security of citizens, there is a need to take some strong measures.”
There are some MLAs and MPs, who have been installing CCTVs from their funds, due to which government money is being spent on this. Making developers install CCTVs will save funds and they can be utilised for other work, he added.
