‘Ineligible profs assessing for MU’
The Bombay University and College Teachers’ Union (Buctu) on Wednesday alleged that the University of Mumbai has been assigning the task of assessing exam answersheets to unapproved and unqualified teachers from unaided colleges. Buctu officials said that they would be taking up the issue with the governor and also writing to the government to point out these practices being adopted by the Univer-sity, thus jeopardising the future of students.
“Unapproved teachers with teaching experience of less than a year have been asked to do assessments. Since these teachers are not permanent appointments, they have to follow the principal’s orders. However, the University is bending the rules as final-year papers’ are being assessed by professors not eligible for it,” said Madhu Paranjape, general secretary of Buctu.
However, an official from MU examination department said, “Aft-er considering the massive dearth of evaluators, the University issued a circular that allowed teachers with two years of experience to assess the papers.”
