‘Hear petition against film as PIL’
The Bombay high court on Monday directed that the petition against the alleged anti-Islamic film, Innocence of Muslims, be listed as a PIL so that an appropriate bench can pass an order on it. The film, directed by director Nakoula Basseley Nakula, purportedly shows Islam in bad light.
Congress party member Ameen Mustafa Idrisi filed the writ petition seeking a ban on the controversial film and
its removal from the Internet.
The petition also sought action against Google’s CEO Larry Page and chairman Eric Schmidt for letting the film remain accessible online.
A division bench of the HC had earlier directed the petitioner to mention the matter before a bench to decide whether the issue could be taken up as a PIL.
On Monday, the matter was mentioned before the division bench of chief justice Mohit Shah and justice Nitin Jamdar.
The court has asked the registry to list the matter as a PIL and put it up for hearing next week.
The film that went viral on the Internet, sparked violent protests in the Middle East and Asia, with Pakistan and some parts of India witnessing attacks on US embassies.

BMC out to make mawa more hygienic, healthy

Keeping in mind the ongoing festive season in the city, the BMC has started a drive to inspect shops and godowns where mawa is stored. While the civic body is taking action against small sweet shops under the BMC Acts, it intimates the FDA in case of larger establishments like cold storages.
Executive health officer of the BMC, Dr Arun Bamne said, “Our sanitary inspectors are frequenting sweet shops, pick up and drop-off points like stations and cold storages. We are checking if mawa at these places is hygienic and healthy. In case we sense something wrong with it, we take action against them.”
The FDA is also carrying its own drive simultaneously like they do every festive season. The BMC is aiding the FDA in checking irregularities with regard to mawa.
FDA assistant commissioner K.V. Sankhe said, “Though we have not collated any data yet, we will give provide all details on Tuesday.”
