HC to get housing double allottees’ list
The state government on Friday informed the Bombay high court that it has prepared a list of all the beneficiaries in double allotments of flats under the chief minister’s quota and it would submit the same in a sealed envelope on September 30.
A division bench of Justices P.V. Hardas and P.N. Deshmukh was hearing a petition filed by former journalist Ketan Tirodkar seeking investigation into the allotments under the CM quota in which relatives of several politicians like Ashok Chavan, Chhagan Bhujbal and Narayan Rane were allotted more than one flat.
During the last hearing, the state had sought time from the court to submit details of double allotment of flats to politicians’ relatives under the chief minister’s discretionary quota.
According to the public interest litigation (PIL), Mr Chavan’s mother-in-law Bhagwati Sharma — in whose name the flat is allotted in the Adarsh cooperative housing society — has been allotted a flat in Powai under the chief minister’s discretionary quota.
Ms Sharma has been given a flat measuring 800 square feet in Kingston Building in Powai under the CM’s quota, reads the PIL. Mr Tirodkar has sought that an investigation be conducted under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code against the ministers and their relatives.
The PIL further alleges that the former deputy chief minister, Chhagan Bhujbal, was allotted a flat measuring 825 square feet in Pune, in May 1992, by the government.
His nephew, Sameer Bhujbal, who is also an NCP leader, was allotted a 1,040 square feet flat in Pune under “intense need of space” category from the CM’s quota a few
years ago. Congress
minister Narayan Rane’s brother, Ashok, was
allotted a flat in Pune. His daughter was also allotted a flat from the chief minister’s quota in Mumbai.
The petition names
ministers who have been beneficiaries under the CM quota — Tushar, son of the leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse and Abid and Sajid Musharif, sons of Congress minister Hassan Musharif.
IAS officers Uttam Khobragade, Chitkala Zutshi and R. Subramaniam have also been named as
beneficiaries who were allotted flats in Pune.
